According to the legend, there are special places which have been a relationship with King Rawana such as Lakegala and Yahangala. During that period of King Rawana, had banished the well-built, strong, stubborn, person to the area as a punishment and that person has cultivated and developed this area within a very short time period . The people who live in the village are very innocent & poor. There are about 40families in Mahalakotuwa village & 95% people are farmers. Villagers do paddy cultivation, vegetable cultivation & Chena cultivation. There is a school & beautiful temple situated in beautiful environment.
